My husband and I found out we had a miscarriage at our first ‘heartbeat’ appointment with the doctor. We were allegedly 12 1/2 weeks along, though the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and 5 days and my body had yet to discover this. After looking at Barnes and Noble for some type of support through a book, we found ONE book on miscarriage/early loss. Needless to say, I was shocked but searched the internet and found this book. The title is deceiving because the book doesn’t make you feel like you did anything wrong, though I found the book to be very boring and statistic based. I felt that there weren’t enough ‘other’ stories that you could relate to and find comfort in knowing that you weren’t alone. Maybe I’m the only one that feels like this, but hearing others’ stories really was the most therapeutic. NOT this book.

After recent miscarriage this book brought me many much needed answers. I would recommend it to any woman who had miscarriage or afraid she may have one. It allowed me to ask my doctor better questions during follow up appointments and prepare for future pregnancies. I only wish I read it earlier, before miscarriage.

My husband and I were given this book when I was 10 weeks pregnant, and just found out that we were expecting twins, which is always shocking but exciting news to hear. I was dying to tell people, but knew that we should wait until the 12 week scan, due to the still high risk of miscarriage, which makes every expectant mum nervous. I had tried to research everywhere on the web what the likelihood of having a miscarriage was at 10 weeks with twins, and could not find the information anywhere. We had been shown the heartbeats on the ultrasound, and then finally read in Susan’s book that the likelihood of having a miscarriage after seeing the beating hearts on the ultrasound at 10 weeks was reduced to some miniscule level, and there was a far better chance at that point in my pregnancy that they would both live to full term, which REALLY put my mind at rest and was a huge relief.

At 11 weeks, the unthinkable happened, and I found that I was bleeding, which put me into a state of panic and uncertainty. Again, having been able to find no comfort from my research on the internet, I turned to Susan’s book, which explained that some bleeding during pregnancy was perfectly normal and nothing to stress about, but that I should notify my obstetrician about it right away. Luckily, my obstetrician echoed the same sentiments and the bleeding stopped within 48 hours. I am now 16 weeks pregnant, and feeling very comfortable in my pregnancy, with the knowledge that with two babies thriving in my womb, my risk of miscarriage is now next to none. However, in the event that something was to happen now, I am well armed with the information that I need to ensure that the reasons as to why a miscarriage might occur at this late stage can be uncovered; and I have Susan’s book to thank for putting my mind at ease and helping me to enjoy and appreciate this relatively trouble-free pregnancy!

I finally got to make some sense of what all the tests my doctors have done for me.

The author did an excellent job of putting all the info together. It’s quite obvious the book is a labor of love, Susan genuinely desires to help others. It’s so refreshing to read something that’s not a marketing vehicle for a physcian’s own medical career.

To those who have had no idea about miscarriage until it happened to you- this is a wonderful book. It explains the main reason why women miscarry so you can see why it might have happened to you. Treatments are explained, and self-assessments assist you along the way. I highly recommend this book to anybody looking for answers during a very challenging time.
